When you have different Social Media platforms for your business, it’s good to know exactly when and what to post to get engagement.
The age-old dilemma of what to post on social media confronts any business. And do all social media platforms need to have the same content?
Well, here are my thoughts on this. And please, do your own research, so you know exactly if these ideas will be of value to your niche.
As I pointed out in a previous post, “not all social media platforms are created equal” and you need first to figure out which will suit your business best. Have a read of that article to see what the different popular social media platforms are all about.
Once you have identified the platforms (and I recommend only three), you have to decide what your message will be on each and when you should post.
It’s easy to have a scheduler; why you can even tick both Facebook and Instagram boxes and schedule the same message for both platforms, but is that the best practice?
Both have very different audiences, and therefore the messages for each should have their own spin. The fact that you are only allowed three hashtags for Facebook but thirty for Instagram also should tell you to schedule the posts separately. So while you’re at it, why not tweak the text to suit the audience?
What about your Call to Action (CTAs)? Each platform has its quirk on what works best, for example. Polls and quizzes work much more effectively on Instagram than on Facebook. And on Twitter, encourage your users to use your branded hashtag. Also, all platforms do not encourage the audience to an external link (although it’s not too bad on Twitter), so you need to put the link in the comments box or make the CTA a request for the person to DM (direct message) you.
On some platforms, you can make your text longer, in others (e.g. Twitter), you are limited to 280 characters. However, whatever length, remember that the first few words of your post are crucial, so they have to be catchy for the viewer to click ‘see more’.
Now it’s a question of when. When do you post that will get more eyes and more engagement? This is something you have to figure out, and you can do this by studying each platform’s analytics. Just because you post at 10 a.m. on Facebook doesn’t mean that 10 a.m. on LinkedIn will be the right time.
Make some time each week for a month to have a good look at when your ideal audience is online, and that will give you the best times to be posting. Remember, each day may be different.
Use a design platform like Canva to uniform your images. I advise using the Instagram template they have, as it will fit everywhere.
