Don’t you find it daunting sitting and looking at a blank page and wondering how on earth you will start your blog post? It happens to the best of us, so here’s some help.

Before you write anything, you need to pick a topic you’d like to write about. The subject can be pretty general initially, as you’ll find it will get more detailed as you go along.

You will need to make sure that you choose something you’re passionate about though, because if you do not feel excited by what you’re creating, then why should anyone else?

So you have your topic. Next, pick the keywords you want to target for the post. This will also be the title, so in my case, it is ‘how to start a blog post, But don’t just guess. It would be best if you researched what will be a good keyword phrase, and you’ll find Google a massive help. Put in your main word, for example, blogging or blog post, and see Google’s drop-down suggestions. Is there anything there that triggers an ‘aha’ moment? If not, scroll down to the bottom and look at other suggestions.

Then before you actually tackle the writing itself, make some bullet points you want to cover in your post.

Now you have your title and bullets; you want to figure out a hook. That’s the first couple of sentences that will get your reader interested and wanting to read more. Generally, this is using words that speak to the reader. For example, my first paragraph says how daunting I find it, and I’m sure you do also.

Once you have these first couple of sentences, you will find that you can easily segue into the bullet points you have previously created.

I’ll be surprised if, by now, your writing is not comfortably flowing!
